  1. Terry , Good advice from Yakity, it can be a very dangerous on big tides , especially on your own .Best to fish from a yak on neaps, more fish as well. The trouble is , it looks so tempting when the sun shining. Glad you got home alright Saturday mate ,I looked in the mirror at Ashburton and you were gone! Thought you had been abducted by aliens and gang probed.
  2. Hi Mate Flynny will tell you more I'm sure. As I understand it was a peace offering from A S Watersports for messing him about with the Tarpon.
  3. Hi Mate Flynny's paddle! well spotted Bill and absolutely spot on.The feather on his paddle was awful .I felt dizzy just trying to work what way round to hold it. Flynny did say he was going to struggle with it . Easy to put right with a spigot , cut and shut style what ya recon? Unfortunately the eel wasn't lip-hooked , amazing it was on so long.
  4. Hi mate I probably would have gone to Teignmouth ,but for the thought of you rolling round on the beach whingeing about your back for two days......god the thought of it.... ooow it hurts ,you will have to cast for me...ooow you will have to wind in for me ...ooow you will have to bait up for me ooow ooow it hurts etc ..YA BIG GIRL!!
  5. Good points well made Yakity.
  6. Great report Jon, summed up wonderfully. A first for me , spending 15 mins trying to bully a conger from it's den on light spinning gear and wire hook, only to have it dive straight back down once it caught site of the kayak. Then having to do it all over again three more times , That's what I call a workout ! But it was only a matter of time before it chomped it's way through 12 lb mono. Great while it lasted, everyone had a good day it seems ,some wetter than others { Flinny} Big shame kayaking hero ,icon and all round good egg, Yakity could not make it this time, look forward to the next meet. A few more pics of the day. I hope! Ready for the off. Flynny2 {left}on his maiden voyage and Terry on their way out Musket with another wrasse. sorry about the missing half of your head Jon Musket with another bass
  7. Hi Dave Unfortunately that disregard for conservation does reflect badly on us all . I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say there is no need to feel in any way responsible , you had know way of knowing there intentions. Some very good points made by Yakity and Musket regarding rules and safety .Still it was a first ,we can only improve .Look forward to the next meet. Glad you had some good sport Dave, any pics? Laurence
  8. Hi all A fantastic days fishing with good company sadly marred at the end by a just a couple of individuals with what appeared to be a total disregard for fish conservation, the welfare of our sport & good fishing practice. The ignorance of this type of so-called fishermen is sickening to see. So many people have worked tirelessly to protect the bass stock for the future, to promote catch and release for the conservation of these threatened fish. To educate all fishermen that their true value as future breeding stock is far more important than the exploitation of these wonderful fish for a few quid. I thought that the days of seeing a bag full of fish chucked on the pavement for the public to see were behind us, not only did most of these fish in my opinion look to be undersized, but they may have been taken from a restricted area. According to the B.A.S.S. web site, In Salcombe Harbour all tidal waters enclosed by a line drawn 090º true from Splat point to Limebury point between 30th April & 1st January falls under the restricted area. It is my understanding that it is not legal to keep Bass caught from this area. Indiscriminate fishing is an outrage and so detrimental to our sport, it reflects so badly not only on all those present, even though the vast majority would never have behaved in this manner and would be very unlikely to condone it, but on all sport fishermen who do practice responsible fishing, conservation and catch and release for the good of the fish stock and of the sport. It was appalling for me to be to be associated with this type of behaviour from kayak fishermen, I had to walk away. Having had my say, it was in all other ways a great day, some good sport fishing was had by many, the weather was fantastic, it was certainly enjoyable to meet the other guys. I will be posting a report with some pictures soon. Laurence
  9. Hi Nick Thanks for the info mate. I will come through Totnes so the slip or North sands sounds good. See you there Saturday. Laurence
  10. Hi Guys Can anyone let me know what the parking situation is like in North / South sands or the slipway area .I'm traveling down from Exeter and looking at the map, it looks like it may be quicker to launch from that side rather than Portlemouth. Laurence
  11. Welcome aboard Shad, It's always a good idea to protect both roof bars and yak with pipe lagging. Prowler 13 does have a small keel on it , so cutting out a section of the pipe lagging for the keel to sit in keeps the yak upright , it also stops it sliding around, but it's not ideal . Alternatively , roofbox.co.uk is worth checking out ,a good selection of purpose made carriers. I am sure other members will have some good ideas for you to ponder over . What species do you target on fly up there Shad?
  12. 16ft long !!! that's not a kayak, it's a plastic bridge.... Nice looking yak all the same.
  13. Hi Flynny Sorry to here about your yak probs mate . I know there's been a couple of probs with Ok prowlers of late , but I can strongly recommend them .Very good customer service and a three year warranty goes a long long way... £250 cheaper too, that buys a lot of other gear when your starting out. If you fancie a trip down here to the coast, your more than welcome to try it for yourself , you wont be disappointed! Yakity has the Prowler 15 he says he is well pleased with it. Both very nice yaks. Chuggs
  14. Terry, I could fill a wheelbarrow with little white cards with the words WE CALLED WHILE YOU WERE OUT on them......Well I could if I had stayed in to wait for the wheelbarrow to be delivered. You know there waiting for you to go out before they call . ..... the B---ARDS !!
  15. East Portlemouth 9.30 sounds cool . ... Satnav Dave! it's cheaper to follow Yakiaty , He knows where he's too. Laurence
  16. Nice link Yakaty, we are only a stones through away from strapping an arm chair to our yaks, what do you reckon bud ?
  17. Hi All, So that's settled then, Salcombe on the 12th it is. I'm looking forward to it, great setting , should make for some great pics and a fish or two will be a bonus . All we need is a window in this crap weather, we must be due it! Simon, as Dave A has already mentioned be good to see you there. That goes for any one who fancies a day afloat. Regarding bait and a meeting place ,as I've mentioned previously it has been a number of years since I was there last. Yaskalos seems to know the area quite well maybe he can offer some advice on meeting places , bait etc. Good advice on the dangers of the bar at the mouth Nick. Laurence
  18. Hi chaps What about Salcombe? Good marks around Bolt head Prawle point .I haven't fished it for a long time but it was reasonable sheltered in the Portlemouth area as I recall ,if the weather is bad.
  19. Good luck with the paddling Zigg. Charmouth, shelterd ,with South Easterlys at the moment.Mmmmm... be careful. I see you are in crewkerne .Exmouth's shelly beach is always worth a go, easy access ,sheltered calm and shallow.[just in case].
  20. Ollie, this pfd is worth checking out,it's a Yak Katarak.Several pockets, huge rear pocket for hats, gloves ect,I've had one for 12 months now ,strong and well made.Trying on before you buy pays dividends.
  21. Hay tubby ,A couple of badges ..! what's it turning into some kind of gay blind date or sumit. I object most strongly about my discription,! Mmmmmmmm maybe the shirts bit is tru ,aaaaand proberly the ugly bit,but tall! phaaaa!well maybe tallish.
  22. Moonyaker, interesting link, does this mean not only do we have to look out for leaking scuppers, but also cut and shut kayaks?
  23. Simon, do you tend to find the scupper any wetter with a lower seat position. How much lower is it?
  24. Tell ,look at the yak from further away with a bit of a squint, you can't see the marks at all.Looks like new then.
  25. I don't think you can go to far wrong with a Palomar knot as an all rounder. Test very close to 100 %, easy to tie, especially in the dark ,excellent with brade ,however it does use more line to tie and not good on lines over 12lb,Jansik special or Trilene knot comes a close second. Personal taste I guess.
