  1. now there is a thought Overrun maybe that's why it was so calm,it probably recognised me
  2. launched at 10am from mudeford quay----it was like picadilly circus! Decided to try pout hole first.Everyone seemed to be struggling, including the charters.Managed 3 mackerel(3 more than most)and a scad Decided to call it a day early and met a two fellow yakfishermen as I was just starting my return. After a quick chat I gave them half a box of Squid and returned to the quay. launched again at 2am precisely, like SpeciMan said dead flat and a full moon--couldn't keep the camera still enough to get a clear moon made it round to pout hole in about 20 mins thanks to the ebb and it was so light I had no problem seeing a pot bouy to hook up to. fifteen minutes past 3---fish on,thought I may have hooked one on the Squid rig too as that also started to twitch, realised soon enough that the fish had snagged on the squid rig Conger number 10 was brought to the boat hooked in 3 places! After what seemed like ages,in fact the Conger became quite calm as if it knew that someone was trying to release him Didn't stay long,in fact was back at the quay before daylight---needed some sleep! Had my 10 Now It's Your Turn Gentlemen!
  3. For my 50th launch of the year I was determined to do something special----what could be better than a 14 mile paddle to one of the most famous marks in England on an absolutely blinding day with the fellow that was your first ever yakfishing partner. Launched from Keyhaven slipway at just after 8am after a mad dash to Christchurch to pick up bait. Was like paddling in a duck pond took this one with the camera mount! paddled and chatted and made good progress, reaching the Needles in just over an hour Made our way to a couple of pot bouys in Scratchells bay and hooked up.Was soon able to feather up enough mackerel for bait (and dinner!)notice how blurred they are where they are jumping about everywhere! Also had a nice Bream--on a full squid and a 6/0 pennel! Went quiet for a while so I decided to move to another pot bouy further offshore All I caught here after over an hour was a solitary doggie so decided to move back inshore with Darnsarf.Managed two more decent sized Bream----yes on full Squid and 6/0 pennels! one of which was a new P.B. Bream had a nice hour lounging on a small beach right next to the Needles that was only accessible by kayak made our way back with the flood and had great fun in the chop off of Hurst.Soon made it back averaging a good 5mph isn't Alum Bay beautiful! must admit my arms are aching a bit! but it really was something special for my 50th launch even though Darnsarf caught something(s) that I would have loved to have caught. One very full tender of pugwash with not a bouyancy vest between them!!!!!!!!! Thanks Paul for helping to make today memorable even though you outfished me

  9. Launched from the quay at 3,bit of a westerly but nothing like last night. Soon made it round to pout hole and anchored up. Had 2 rods out to start(had even brought some ragworm and 3 rods as I was determined not to blank)both with Squid on pennel rigs. Dead on 4am----hefty bite and we're away, felt like a Conger but wasn't putting up the usual fight.Got it to the surface ----------- a strap---smallest one I've caught from the yak,had swallowed the hook deep had to cut the mono 5.20am and Conger no.2 for the session was on the hook, thankfully lip hooked this time! put some rag on the 3rd rod and caught a pouting lobbed the excess bait over the side and headed back about 7.30 am happy with my 8th and 9th of the year

  15. Launched Friday night at 1000 from Mudeford quay and paddled round to pout hole.Had two rods, one with mackerel and one with Squid. Things started quiet and I kept looking at my watch with the time approaching midnight wondering would I get the midnight Conger like we have so many times in the past. Sure enough 10 minutes to 12 BANG! This was a big fish,it took a long time to get it to move and it made continual dives for the deep.Eventually managed to get it right up to the bow then PING!it was gone.Would have loved a pic as it was definately a biggie fished on till about 3am but was too tired to put any real effort in. Saturday launched at midday and paddled to a mark between Pout Hole and Southbourne Rough in 57ft of water had heaps of mackerel and a few doggies which have been absent lately Then got a thumping bite on the Squid rod.Took a while to get it off the bottom but was not making any runs for freedom.Eventually got it to the yak to discover that it was A cute small eyed ray.had only just hooked it with the top hook of the pennel so releasing was dead easy. Ready for relaunch And away! I was really chuffed! Paddled back to make ready for a morning launch and met Overrun near Clarendon rocks Sunday launched at 9.30am and paddled to pout hole. There were loads of holidaymakers on the mackerel boats I decided to troll feathers for a while but was still only picking up singles.Had a couple quite big that are dinner, but that was to be all. As predicted the wind picked up (and swell) Had rigged the sail before launch and it was real fun flying back to the quay had so much fun sailing back that I had a while sailing in Christchurch harbour Black House on the right Roll on next weekend!

  19. After a few dissappointing night sessions decided as it was a beautiful day today to launch at Lepe at midday.Wore my wetsuit for the first time this year!Paddled out about a mile into the Solent and anchored up in about 25ft. Tried for mackies with the feathers and after a while with no success, baited up the feathers with mini Squid. Managed to catch one small Bream, and I mean small! After a few pleasant hours of watching pugwash(Cowes week this week) hooked a better fish on the baited feathers the day was starting to get better, then along came one of these on baited feathers (45cm) then after a while the rod with the Californian Squid started to get some attention ,resulting in this beauty thought it seemed quite placid but as soon as I brought it in the yak it attempted to trash the cockpit! The coastguard were practicing with the inshore lifeboat for some time quite a few other yaks on the water though none fishing ROLL ON NEXT WEEKEND!although I'll probably be out Friday night Congering again

  22. I've been to two diveshops in Hamburg, one Between Ritterstrasse and Wartenau and the other just outside Mundsburg on the way to Farmesen and found their ranges of gear far insuperior to what I've seen in U.K. diveshops.Having said that you should be able to get a decent pair of boots there---try to get a pretty rigid sole if poss
  23. Many of you would have read the reports over the last two seasons of Conger that myself and others have caught at the Hengistbury head area.A lot of the Welsh lads that I fish with quite regularly had shown eagerness to fish the mark for Conger which got me thinking why don't I arrange a meet to do just that.I have arranged accomodation for the Welsh lads and a few other old acqaintances for the 1st week in September and would like to invite everyone to fish with us on the 1st Sept.(Saturday).Obviously as we will be targetting Conger it will be an evening/night session but it wouldn't hurt to fish in the afternoon for some fresh bait.Pre-meet at the Black house opposite Mudeford Quay.5pm.Don't forget your navlight! I'll be setting up a Bouy system at the mark Should have demo yaks--more on that later If you can't make this day but have some time off anytime between the 1st and 7th September, come down and fish with some of the most experienced yakfishermen in the U.K. GB,Phooey,Paintfly(provided he get's his car sorted)Darnsarf,Martin Hurst,S2vto,Nifty,StarvinMarvin,Simon Everett,SpeciMan,Marc J,Overrun and Kayakkarma,Marc M who else?
