  1. Should I take that as a no then?
  2. Please moderators, if the considerable numbers of us who are interested in conservation and politics must be shoved in a corner sea and freshwater together, can we at least have some kind of identifying icon to show if the thread is saltwater or freshwater. i appreciate that a few of us have feet in both camps. In my case I only have the choice of sea fishing, there are no fishing freshwaters on the island. It would be nice not to waste my time opening threads that turn out to be freshwater.
  3. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Nov 18 2006, 04:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I also has a flush toilet. I is very pleased that you has a flush toilet Norm Much nicer than bucket and chuckit.
  4. I don't think duped is the right word. I think he was pressurised by a vociferous minority who aren't interested in, or don't care about, the future. They managed to persuade Elton that they were the majority and that those who are interested and do care are the minority. As post rates over the last couple of days are beginning to indicate, it might have been more appropriate for Elton to have started a "I've got my fingers in my ears Lah, Lah, lah, I'm not listening! forum", just for them.
  5. And I will agree 100% with you. Please Elton, reconsider.
  6. For Pete's sake! Don't tell the commercials that! they'll want a reduction in the Cod MLS too!
  7. I hadn't read your post just now when I posted on that exact subject. seems that most of the "Sea Forum" lot have migrated here. Maybe those that care about the future of our sport are more numerous than some think.
  8. All that talk of getting rid of politics and conservation to its own forum seems to have left some people lonely. I just looked on Sea Fishing forum, two threads had posts today up to 5 o clock. this one had eight threads with new posts (9 now!) perhaps there are more people who enjoy talking politics and conservation than some of the angling ostriches think?
  9. According to Guernsey Sea Fisheries annual report for 2006 I can't see any record of Boue Blondel fish as far away as Suffolk. Nearest ones I can see were caught in the Straits of Dover. These were fish tagged by the Guernsey Sea Fisheries officers. http://www.gov.gg/ccm/commerce-and-employm...ical-reports.en Click on report 2006.
  10. Can you tell me where i can find this information you just mentioned please Wurzel? any online links? Where in the CI were they tagged?
  11. That's what I'm thinking, it must be a very early multiplier. Looking at it, they haven't changed an awful lot in the last 103 years. Still grossly overpriced and a pig to cast with.
  12. --><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Norm B @ Nov 13 2006, 04:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--> Thanks Bill, did you like the Alderney write up, it was a great 3 days, it's nice when a plan comes to fruition. So post Christmas is better for the mullet I take it, what about the sharks? Two different sets of tackle required I expect. Yes, nice write up Norm, and thanks for your kind words concerning the guest house. As for the tackle, I suppose it would be a nice challenge to go sharking with a 2 1/2lb test curve rod and 8lb line . you might want to scale the end tackle up a little though.
  13. Ah! I wasn't going to mention that but it will all be so much better in February Won't it?
  14. --><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Norm B @ Nov 12 2006, 12:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--> Yes, I'm looking at a trip around Christmas to promote the "out of season fishing", although there doesn't seem to be a no fishing season on Alderney. I'm hoping to do some inshore shark fishing and some shore fishing with Mark if the conditions allow. Not sure if it's pre-Xmas or post-Xmas yet, depends on Marks timetable as he's fitting out the new premises. I could be his first B+B customer. If you are planning on staying with Mark I think it won't be this side of Christmas. He's got a big job on with that place. It should be a big improvement on his old shop though. I pulled his leg the other day that as he is going to start doing B&B above the tackle shop, we would start selling tackle at Bonjour guesthouse. I think you might still have our number, give us a call or PM me when you are coming over. Maybe we can find some of those mullet for you. Bill.
  15. If he's caught somewhere else, who do they return the tag to?
  16. I'm glad to see that this poll is not meant to be taken seriously Glenn. For a moment there I thought you were trying to wind up the C&R totalitarians. If it had been serious I would have chosen the middle option, not because the wording of the two other options was so extreme, but because I believe that it is a responsible and sustainable way to practice angling.
  17. I tried a Google search for that, Jim, but couldn't find anything.
  18. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Nov 12 2006, 09:47 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Will the bream and mullet still be there after Christmas? Probably not the bream, though it's not unknown to get the odd few in January. Mullet fishing here is usually at its best from late January to early April with FEb/March being the best of all. Having said that, there have been a good few fish in the 5lb bracket caught recently but that is probably down to visiting anglers spending a lot of hours fishing for them. Do I detect an Alderney trip on the cards post Xmas, Norm? He's got no chance! That big red suit will frighten them all off!
  19. Sounds great! What a luxury, having a boat that size between 3 Have a good one Elton. Full report when you return please.
  20. Has he got sleeping accommodation or are you all going to stay awake 24 hours? The boat doesn't look big enough to sleep a whole crew.
  21. Who wrote this? The Two Ronnies? Or is the guy on some sort of exotic smoking material? I am used to being amazed at what political committees come up with but I will be truly dumbfounded if any sane person swallows this.
  22. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Nov 11 2006, 11:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The anglers that target mullet in Alderney over the winter months use size 2's with ragworm and have a great time. I don't think anglers here in Alderney deliberately target mullet that way, but they are often caught on worm baits meant for other species. Otherwise it's the usual small hooks, bread, meat, or fish baits. Mentioning bread, that appears to be the number one bait for black bream. My mate and I (Alderney Bassman) have been using mulleting float tactics with a fishy groundbait to good effect recently and have had good catches of decent sized (2lb plus) bream, whereas most bream I've had on bottom gear on squid and worm have been very small.
  23. I have to agree with you Steve. whether we like it or not, politics and conservation will affect all of us, including the head-burying brigade. calling people who take an interest and try to influence matters "Liberals" "Socialists" and any other names isn't going to make a blind bit of difference to the outcome, standing up and being counted will. For the record, I am neither Liberal nor Socialist, nor am I a Greenie, tree-hugger, etc, etc. I put some fish back, I keep some for the table, I use some for bait to catch other fish. I agree with the point made by another poster on this thread that conservation is not merely about catch and release.

FWIW I used to use Araldite Rapid, which was very good and can be melted off with gentle heat from a lighter. Now I use normal hot-melt glue, which is even quicker to set than Araldite Rapid and just as easy to warm off.
