  1. I was just wondering if you require a special lead for a marker rod or if a normal lead would do. If a specialist lead is preferable where would i buy such a beast from? any help would be most welcome cheers kev
  2. I think the reds are out in Cyprus doing their annual training. Not 100% sure but if not then they will be doing the airshow rounds as they were at waddington a few weeks back Kev
  3. Hi just caught an interview on 5 Live with a RSPCA representative. She stated quite clearly that whenever science proves fish can feel pain they will come under the protection of the new legislation. The interviewer kept trying to bring in insects and slugs for a gimmicky angle but I found her last statement to be of the most concern re fish feeling pain. Kev
  4. Get yourself down to RAF Coningsby in Lincs and you can take photos of Lancs spitfires hurricanes and dakota all day. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Museum is worth a look to. Kev

    Hemp

Just after a bit of advice. The missus has just bought me a coffee bean grinder to use on my hemp. What I would like to know is do I prepare the hemp in the normal way prior to grinding(crushed hemp) or is there a different way of preparing it? Would be grateful for any info. Cheers Kev
  8. Hi I was just wondering if anyone has taken their little'un fishing to a commercial fishery? The reason I ask is that I asked my local fishery if I could bring my five year old for a quick 1/2 to 1 hour session(attention span not much more). I was told that I would still have to pay full juniors price for him. Needless to say I was a little reluctant to do this and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Cheers Kev
  9. Hi has anyone used the artificial pop up trout pellets? I have just bought some off ebay and I have yet to try them. Just a quick query a local fishery has a pellet ban do you think this applies to the artificial variety as well. Cheers Kev
  10. Cheers Norrie I would be most grateful for some details from your guide. I only took up fly fishing while I was in Scotland because coarse fishing was a bit thin on the ground. I found it to be a really good experience and I hopefully want to keep my eye in as well as plenty of coarse fishing down here. Thanks to all other who replied to my query Cheers Kev
  11. Oh well not to worry I must be only angler in lincs I'll just get out in the car and have a look around for the lesser spotted lincs angler cheers kev
  12. Hi I've just moved down to Coningsby from Forres nr Inverness I was after a bit of local advice. Does anyone know of the nearest fly fishing water? I would appreciate any info. Cheers Kev
  13. Hi I've finally made the move back down to England from the highlands of Scotland. I've moved to a place called Coningsby and I would like to know if anyone is in the area and knows some good spots to fish? I like to fish for anything as long as its a day away from my nippers!(only joking). Cheers for any advice Kev
  14. I am a member of RAF Scotland course and game fishing clubs. But due to immenant posting back to England (Lincs) I'll probably be joining my Stations clubs be they course sea or game.
  15. In reply to this one I travel around 100 mile round trip to fish for pike (and thats the nearest loch that I have found) There are plenty of trout lochs for me very local if I want to fish with fly but its not often that I do. Hopefully in May I am moving from the notheast of Scotland to the Sleaford area so hopefully there will be a few local waters and rivers to fish.
  16. Thanks for all the input lads I think that I will take my little'un to a pond where i know he will catch something (even on his starter kit) and I think this will grab him more than anything else. At the end of the day getting him fishing is the ultimate goal.
  17. While not an expert on this and being in Scotland where a license is not needed I was always under the impression that to fish with a rod and line in England you had to have a fishing license. I would be interested in this as I go to England once or twice a year and I always make sure I have a valid license.
  18. Hope everyone has a happy and friutful new year good luck to everyone.
  19. Hi I am not generally a moaner but I thought I had to air my views on a Starter Kit I bought for my 4 1/2 year old son. I took my son to a Local loch today with said starter kit the hooks were barbed and were the size I would normally use to catch specimens the split shot couldnt grip the line. The reel was jerky and line tangled incessantly. Now I know you only get what you pay for and I was not expecting perfect tackle. But all I could think of was if a youngster had bought this kit without the knowledge of a adaquate angler he could easily have become disallusioned with it all. I substituted hooks floats and shot with my own gear and my little'uns face when he made his first successful cast was a sight which will remain with me forever and short of actually catching anything I think he is hooked despite the kit. I was just wondering if anyone else has experience of these kits and I would like to ask if in your opinion they encourage or discourage young anglers bearing in mind the make of the kit was a reputable company of which I have a variety of gear.
  20. Thanks for the info on paste lads already got the missus to buy the smelly cheese she suggests making pastry from scratch is there a problem with this? Jeepster will contact you nearer the time (hopefully all the snow will have melted by then and I can actually get down south). Again thanks for all advice much appreciated Kev
  21. Thanks for the info jeepster. I am travelling down on the 11th of Jan and will be staying with the inlaws until 27th Jan. Would be great if we could go and try and get a few Chub together I think my brother in law would be up for it too. Kev
  22. Hi I am heading south in January from the highlands to Derby (Swanwick to be precise) and I would like to target Chub as I've never had the pleasure of catching one before. What I would like to know is if anyone knows any good spots within the area? I was thinking of using cheese paste or bread as bait with 8lb mainline and 6lb hooklength. The method I was thinking about using was a couple of ssg on sliding line and just trundling down the swim. I am getting a tad excited over my visit down south after working all over christmas and new yaer the missus has said I can get out as often as I like over the 3 weeks I'm down there cant wait. Any help on this would be appreciated. Cheers Kev
  23. Thanks for the gen lads. although not much call for course fishing up here but new carp/tench/roach fishery has just opened at Elgin so will give mail order a try kev
  24. Hi has anyone heard of a supplier of worms called Doctor Fish? I was pike fishing up here in north scotland and found an empty tub of worms from this source. The reason behind the question is that where I live up here it is very hard getting good worms and virtually impossible to get maggots. Thanks for any help on this Kev
  25. Hi I've been watching a program recently starring Hugh Firnley-Wittingsal (Not sure of spelling)and I was wondering if anyone else had seen it. The last few episodes he has caught and eaten a mirror carp and tonight he caught a 10lb grass carp and served it up at a banquet. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this program I was a bit surprised at the grass carp as I thought they were quite rare(not quite sure as I've never fished for them or evan been anywhere where they are). I dont know if i'm overreacting as I personally would not eat these kinds of fish but I suppose it takes all sorts Kev
