One of the Predators episodes on Home & Leisure was about catching Winter Chub using Steak. Planned to try it myself sometime this winter but I'm having too much fun trotting for the Grayling currently.

Fishing steak hookbait and feeding with mince was a bit of fad on the Trent about 1991. I guess it still works, but if I recall it was important to use "rough" steak - ie coarse-textured like stewing steak - on the hook. Fillet steak is too fine.

Oh yes, and use it raw and as bloody as possible.

Never bothered, myself. Bread is too good. And a lot more versatile. And cheaper.

Wasp grub hookabaits (and mashed wasp cake) are apparently the bee's knees (!!) for chub.
