Nearly lure chucking season

Numerically it was a fairly good week-end for pike. Pretty good for bream too.

Re the 'pike season', am beginning to think we need a well thought out 'season' just to reduce the pressure on poor old esox.

Peter, that's something I'd be totally against if it were on a national or even a local basis - and I'd fight it tooth and nail!

It's a different matter though on an individual water by water basis. I agree some form of closed season is appropriate at some venues. This though should be set by whoever manages the water - as it is at present.

Those not happy with the present arrangement on a given water should lobby those who control it. In the past there's been too much lobbying at government level.

Steve, a couple of years ago I would also have fought it tooth and nail. But results speak for themselves and I am beginning to think back to the old pike season that we used to have on the Broads, e.g. October start. Never thought I'd think that way though.
