Hi Guys

Only just found this forum. Have a few questions hopeing that someone can answer for me.

I used to fish when younger with my brother etc. i know the age old story. though went off and did other things.

But now the winter is here, the surf is unpredicable. so when there isn't enough then i want to start fishing again. So bought a copy of sea anglerfor the first time in years for rod prices ets.

And i keep on seeing poles for fishing, what is pole fishing and how does it work any links to explain would be appreciated.

Secondly what is a real begginer kit money really tight this year. so i have found aset that seems ok. nothing serious but cheap. seems to cover all that i want.

i found the kit here and want touse itmany on rockfishing, spinning, and beach.

Pole fishing is for coarse fishing and not practical for UK sea fishing except maybe for some highly specialised mullet fishing.

The rest if I'm right comes straight out of the Askari catalouge and in my opinion for what its worth is that a lot of their gear is a bit on the inferior side of tackle.

Pop along to your local tackle dealer and explain what you want and what it is you want to catch and they'll help you out. Tackle dealers need customers to keep coming back so they will look at you as a potential long term customer and treat you accordingly

Keep it simple solaris, buy the best rod and reel combo you can afford, rod rest, some ready made traces and a few leads. As you get more confident you'll have a better idea of what you'll need, alot of the gear you've listed would be a waste of time mate.

Hi Mike and welcome to Anglersnet :)

Gotta be honest, you have found a pile of poop.

Spend your cash wisely, a good rod and reel will

last 10 times longer and you will enjoy your fishing

much much more

Current favorite setup is an Abu Suveran SX with

an ABU 6500 CT Mag.

Blimy, how long did it take to list that lot? If you want a reasonable rod and reel, go to http://www.bestfishingtackle.com. You will find a decent beachcaster and fixed spool reel for about £70 for both. perfectly adequate I can assure you. I have been using their kit for three years, and no problems. My £40 rods can cast 130yds plus with ease.

You can get line in bulk off the net in many places. You will need a rod rest, and other bits you can get from http://www.baitsdirect.com when you order your frozen squid, mackerel, limpits, sandeels, mussels et, as they do a good range of tackle, including very good cheap lead weights. If you order over £50 worth, it's free delivery.

Don't make the mistake of many novice anglers and pay a fortune for gear that is never going to cast 200yds. At night, it's a big mistake to cast too far anyway. You will never need a rod costing hundreds of pounds. They are a con. They don't catch any more fish. Reels are another big con, you see guys spending hundreds on a reel! I spend about £35 quid on a reel, and they won't cast further than me I can assure you.

I could kit you out for about £150, no problem.

Geffaz, the mags are fitted with magnetic brakes which are adjustable and designed to slow down the spool speed during the cast, to prevent overuns/birds nests. I always keep them on with my mag elite, and (touch wood) never had any problems with birds nests.
