You could always give it a go and maybe get lucky, but if you loose a fish and hook on the way in you can bank on it being a spur. If you have anything stronger than 20lbs (even shockleader) the you could always swap the snoods on the flapper traces.

I have not fished etive for a while, though reports suggest the spur numbers and the size of the fish caught have been decreasing in recent years, thanks to commercial long lining. You do get the occasional ray to a decent size too.

For the spurs I would use a min of 100 lb snoods. I was bitten through in seconds by a spur at Oban on Saturday because i was daft enough to put down a rig with about 70 lb snoods.

A good spur in Etive now would be about 5 lb I believe.

Cant help you with shore locations as I usually hire a boat.
