chod rig

hello everyone,

when using the chod rig, does it have to be fished as a single popup hook bait or can it be fished over beds of bait ie particles and freebees

The whole point of the choddy is to have a short, stiff hooklength almost helicopter fashion to lift the hookbait off the bottom, where it's covered in rotting vegetation (chod), so pop-ups are OK, but not always necessary.

You can fish snowman style hookbaits, usually a boilie and a piece of plastic corn for a little neutral buoyancy - I do and catch fish that way. I want the bait to waft about a little in the current. In the winter dont use any freebies as I want the fish to take my bait. In the summer, I rarely have use of the chod rig.

"Chod"-an unfeasabley large turd.

Sam why use the Chod Rig when you dont need to? its designed for a specific job so there re much better rigs for other situtions. Or are you wanting to fish your beds of particles etc over/in silt?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I wouldn't use the chod rig over particles/freeebies etc.The chod rig has been designed to be used with a popup and is more of a visual thing. If you use it over a bed of particles your hookbait isn't going to be in the same place as your freebies ie.on the bottom and is likely to be ignored by the fish as they will probably be grubbing around hoovering up your freebies. If you are using free baits(similar to one on the hook)it is best to spread a few over quite a large area around your hookbait, the fish will then be swimming around and picking them up one by one,,this is when your chod rig does the business.
