surfaces fishing?

What?? Guessing you mean how to fish for carp with surface baits and what rig to use.

Bubble float and a floating bait (dog biscuits, floaty pellets, bread flake etc). Not really a complicated rig - bog standard hair rig, probably 30 to 50cm up from the swivel a bubble float. Add water to the bubble float to increase weight/casting distance.

You need to keep an eye on your bait!!

I'm with Ian on the Bubble Float, I love'em!

I use a 4 - 5ft hooklink with a 12mm hair-rigged cork ball for a hook bait. Freebies are the good old chum mixer. The carp will not be able to tell the difference between the hookbait and the freebies, I promise. The cork ball never comes off and you never miss catching the biggy because you were too busy re-baiting, which is a nightmare!

Anyways.....

Fire out loads of chum mixers to get the carp confident and shhhllluuuurpin' well. Cast over the top and carefully/gently drag your hookbait amongst the freebies. Watch the hookbait, not the float and get ready for the inevitable rush of adrenaline! :)

Don't wet a line until the carp are feeding well on the freebies.

Good luck.

On a more serious note.....

Anyone ever tried using pop-up boilies on the surface, or am I being stupid again?

Also those big squiggy meaty chunks of dry doggie grub look good. I know they float cos my dog is forever dropping them in his water bowl.
