Carp on a fly?

I was down at the pools last weekend, and very good it was too, but i sat watching double figure carp rising to what was obviously natural food on the surface or just below and it got me to thinking. Call this off the wall if you like, but has anyone got any experience of fishing for carp in late summer with fly tackle and, say, imitation daddy long legs, either floating or sub surface. I just got the feeling that some very nice fish were actually rising to buzzers and thought it might work...............

OK, you can call me all sorts of names now, I've got me helmet and flak jacket ready.

Hmmm, 20Lb carp on a 8ft fly rod and 6lb leader - now thats sporting!

Should be good for smaller fish though.

Biggest prob I can see is that most carp lakes I fish have a lot of trees and veg around them to get caught up in, but on some pools it would be worth a few chucks.

Yes, its good fun - and the noise of the check on the fly-reel certainly startles the bivvy-boys.

I've caught carp in the mid-singles range by loose feeding maggots and fishing a Peach Doll.

...also a bit of cork cast with fly tackle will take carp that are on the biscuits - I've had them to mid doubles on that method.

...have only had a handful of small carp (up to 4 lb) on imitations of natural flies though.

If trees/bushes are a problem, learn to roll cast - its easy enough.
