Hmmm, the shop boughts I have bought all sink, but my own sometimes float.

As soon as they've turned, they need to be bagged & stored in the fridge. Or stored in a bait tub in water stored in the fridge if you're not going to use them the next day.

Geoff your floating casters are just older ones as the fly inside develops more there becomes mo0re air in the caster shell so it floats.

 

To get good quality casters takes a bit of work! you need to keep the maggots very free from grease by regular riddling as soon as the maggots start to turn you need as Judley said remove and freeze them.A good thick bag saves freezer burn.

 

Some prefer to freeze them dry others in water choice is yours!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
