  1. That'll be a no then Changed my mind since posting OP, & the lack of replies put me off the Garb, so have just bought an 11ft John Wilson Project Avon Quiver More practical as well, come the winter chub sport.

    Casters

As soon as they've turned, they need to be bagged & stored in the fridge. Or stored in a bait tub in water stored in the fridge if you're not going to use them the next day.

    Casters

    No difference whatsoever.
  4. I'm after a 9/10ft picker to fish the smaller Southern rivers, such as the Adur & the Arun & maybe the odd still water, fishing mainly for Roach, Chub & Bream, but needing some power if Tench & Carp make their presence known. Is the Garbolino Rocket Carp Picker any good? For 20 quid it seems a bargain! I'm not looking at spending a huge amount, but this rod seems to be ticking all the boxes, especially price. Any comments or experiences with this rod are appreciated.
  5. Catching stamp Dace on the stick - what more could a man ask for!
  6. Next time i'm barbel fishing i know that that analogy will be in my mind! lol

    Mullet

<tips hat> What a fish! fair play to ya!
  8. Having grown up near the banks of the River Severn in Shropshire, i've had my fair share of barbel - pb hitting 10.2.0 - but i'm on a quest in Cornwall to bag some mullet. After reading FishingGuensey's thread i may swing towards the mullet on this one Hopefully i can report back soon with a unanimous verdict Jim
  9. Cheers for the tips FishingGuernsey. Guess what i'm doing this sunday? Tight lines for your next Mullet session!
  10. Cheers for that Do you fish for them on the bottom using bread? Do you fish or know the Fowey at all Norm? When i've bagged me first Mullet, i'll letcha know 'arold!
  11. Do all mullet have big tails compared to their size? or just younger fish?
  12. FishingGuernsey - you've got me frothing at the bit to have a go at the mullet on my local river Fowey. I've never caught a mullet, & after reading that i'm hooked! After my Gilthead bream expeience a few weeks ago, these mullet sound like they come from a different league (pound for pound) in the fighting department. Would bread work for mullet in dirty/tidal flood water do you know? Cheers for post
  13. That answers my last question - cheers dave. Barracuda in the Fowey - looking forward to it lol
  14. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Jun 20 2007, 07:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They are being caught all along the south coast, I've had reports from Plymouth in the west to Portsmouth in the east. They have been caught in Portsmouth harbour and that has fresh water running into it and the river at Salcombe.. So i'm not alone - cheers for that Norm The bite was awesome, & the fish had already started to run on the take. I've caught some fish in my time, but as i said above, pound for pound this has to be the ultimate sport fish! I did happen to come across a snippet of info that they feed mainly on crustaceans, which would explain the crushing pads in their mouths, so i was a bit surprised that i caught on rag worm. So i suppose if they're in hard competition for food they're not fussy feeders? Cheers all for the info.
  15. Indeed! But not quite the info i was looking for mate
  16. Hi all, hoping someone can shed some light on this species. I've searched the forums & the net but can't come up with any real info. Went down to fish my usual spot on the River Fowey last Sunday & bagged two Gilthead Bream! First one was 1lb 12oz, & the other maybe just under a pound. Anyway my question is, are these species usually caught so far up a tidal river? Are they an all round common species at this time of the year? I've been fishing for 30 years now, & pound for pound that fish has to be the best sporting fish on light gear that i've ever caught! Hopefully someone can shed some light on this wonderful fish. Ta
  17. For someone new to Barbel fishing on a stretch of the Severn which is snaggy, i'd go along with 10lb mono & 1.75 tc. I never use anything over 5lb, but then i do love some sport. I was even fortunate enough to land a 9lb barbel on a 1.1 bottom on the float during a winter session above Ironbridge - took me a while to land, but by golly did it feel good when she slipped into the net
  18. Course fish ain't vermin, squirrels are however, & you really should try a plump nut filled tree rat come autumn - they're delicious!
  19. Only just discovered, yet on the brink of disappearing forever - seems to be the trend in todays world
  20. There is a wax "spray" available Glenn
  21. I totally agree with you, there's some monster barbel in the Severn. Biggest i've heard about (locally) is 13lb, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone was to bag a 15lb fish in the not to distant future. Tight lines BP & be sure to post some pics when Santa delivers your shiny new cam
  22. Just found this info which may be of help mate - Looks like they've got another foot to grow yet!
  23. You should get out more. As for large Roach - i've never seen one over 2lb 8oz, which i bagged myself on a stretch of the Severn.
