Hi, I want to start fishing at my local fishing lake i understand i need a licence and i have a rod and reel but can you tell me what else i will need and what line to use.

I have a round ball float is this ok and can any one tell me of a website where i can get the pics of what the end of the line should look like such as where the float goes.

Thanks, Michael

Blooming heck Michael! Its a massive subject that I could sit here writing about for weeks and you still wouldn't be that much better of!

What I will sat is the best possible way of learning is not by book,Internet,TV,DVD or coach (although all are helpful).

The way is to find someone that knows there stuff to tag along with for a while. They will be in the same area as you so know the local waters and the methods, baits, tactics required.

It used to be normal to suggest going to your local tackle shop for advice but due to the extent most specialise these days it no longer holds true.

How did you first get into wanting to go? any friends, neighbours, work colleagues you know go?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Start with the links from moonlight angler. Once you got the jist of setting up a float etc. Just get out there and have a go. You will soon meet people that will give you advice and help most of us are a friendy bunch. Depending on what you local tackle shops are like you might be able to get some pointers and helpful advice. But like budgie said these days they are not always as helpful as they use to be, Unless you are buying the latest super dooper carp rods and three obcence beach fishing coarse reels.

Bind my wounds, And bring me a fresh horse.
