Leek Show Today

Leek show??? To those of you south of Durham you will probably never heard of it.

Basically it is a specialised veg show run by your local boozer :)

I will be "benching" 3 leeks in approx 30 mins. The rules are they have to be fit for table use and not gone to seed and under 6" to the button. That means if the "white bit" is longer than 6" you go to last place, Rules are rules.

So even if I come last I will get approx £200 shoved into my hand, some of which will be in the form of beer tokens

So if any of the NE lads are passing the Rockcliffe Arms,Whitley Bay call in and see Mr and Mrs Snatcher and maybe young Snatcher and you will get a free pint.

My leeks are not too bad so with a bit of luck will finish up near the top

Will report back eventually :):)

Well done snatcher, I just grow for the table. That means they are crap at the side of yours. With all the cancer treatment I've been having, the veg I've managed to grow this year has been poor by even my low standards.

Do you know how to grow exhibition potatoes?

You know, get totally unblemished skins!

Try growing a row of onions between each row of spuds. That way, they cry their eyes out

I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow - creature, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

John I assume now having gone public on this now its ok to talk about it

Hope you are fighting the fight mate

Back to the topic John a few years ago grew a 52.5 lb cabbage which I entered into our show and duly won.

At the time the world record cabbage was 124lb on the Hercules strain.

My feeble attempt was via Robinsons Exerbition Cabbage

Keep fighting the swine John. "If " I think on will try and get a photie of the beasties and post it up :)
