Just remove some of the pipes and wire and see how "non-essential" they are

one controls the exhaust recirculation device this basically is a valve that opens letting some exhaust fumes through so its mixed with the petrol mix.

another is the pulsair system which pumps fresh air into the exhaust manifold to make sure your CO 2 readings are tiny (shhhhh) its supposed to be disabled in the MOT test

Another two are redundant if the above systems are removed (common practice) that leaves one pipe left that actually does something inside the carb ,in injection models that pipes missing.

its an agricultural engine it has no engine management so for what it is all the pipes are unneeded.

the golf is older and needs none of the pipe silliness yet shares the exact same ignition system the only electronic bit of the car :D

just spent all day removing the alternator the bottom bolt was a nightmare ,it stopped charging but a set of new brushes and a regulator at a tenner made it as good as new  a steady 14.5v with the lights and fan on once more not bad for an alternator thats done 270 thou miles i was surprised it was the original 55 amp version the replacements are 80 to 100 amp ones

"Just to highlight how true some of these observations are, I have to change a front driving/fog light bulb on my Evo before it's MOT next week. To do so appears to involve having the car up and removing various bits and pieces in the way first.

All this for a poxy bulb! "

in the halfords add the mechanic pokes them in the front :D
