I use scalded trout pellet a lot on a method feeder. A bit of flavouring and sweetener added to the boiling water and you have a mix that's caught me lots of bream.

Just another point re feeders, They often "dig in" nose first, and if the bait is mounted on top then it can be obscured/buried, so you need to pull back a bit.

I have done a LOT of testing/redesigning of feeders and think I have solved this problem. Be careful with the ones from Korum and Fox which have solid bases, these really do "dive in".....cast like a bullet....and dive down like one :)

My testing was done by casting along the bank so I could walk up and see how the feeder had landed. Different distances up to 70 yards or so, and in about 3/4 foot of water. Feeders dug in/landed nose first on almost all occasions. Took a few weeks and several new moulds to get the answer.......................think Eddie the Eagle ;);)

Den

I don't often fish in 3/4 of a foot of water and bullet's stop pretty quick in deeper water.

For those with less experience than Den, there are a number of reasons why its a good idea to put the brakes on a lot before your feeder hits the water. One it will help stop digging in as Den says, there is less chance of it breaking up on impact with the water. and there might just be something left in your swim to catch. :D

I used to have trouble with "digging in" in 10 foot of water..required quite a hefty pull to release the feeder. Part of the lake I mostly fish has a dark clay bed, and the feeders would often come back with some clay stuck to them. I was not to concerned with the digging in, I was concerned with the thought that the feeder ended up sticking nose first in the mud/silt, so the bait on top was half buried. Even feathering hard failed to stop the feeders from diving steeply.

I'm not sure what you've got going on there Den, but my method feeders take a few seconds (3 or 4 i should think) to find the bottom after touch down in 10 foot of water. If I hold the line tight as it sinks i can feel when it lands on the bottom.
