An idea

Its probably not a new idea but it is to me lol.

Has anyone tried making a pellet paste and squeezing this into a method feeder and just squeezing a few freebies and the hook bait to the out side.

My thinking is that a pellet paste squeezed into the frame of a method feeder will leek attractant slowly and for quite some time and a few freebies added to the outside to actually catch the fish.

i guess i'm trying to just attract but not feed anything.

everytime i catch a fish i'm lucky when i blank i'm a hopeless angler.

Sort of! When I fish the method I tend to make a very stiff mix that doesn't breakdown very quickly and is often still on the feeder when netting the fish!

Don't use method feeders much anymore though!

I have messed around with the idea for a few years of wrapping past around the lead and pushing pellets, hemp and boilie sections in to it. I recently found a few method leads designed for the job with holes in and nodules to help hold the paste on.

I've found it a good method for Carp and will be trying it out this year to see if it has any milage for Tench.

Standard tactics for me Terry :) I make my feeder mix sticky enough to stay in place and then leak smells. As Rich says, it often stays in place even when playing a fish.

I have some reservations about mounting the hookbait on top of the feeder (although I keep trying it) and prefer to use a short (3") tube which sticks out the front of the feeder with a 3" hooklength. The idea is that the actual hookbait is "a juicy lump that has come off" :) Catches me fish (carp/tench/rudd/roach and eels) pretty consistantly.

Add some ground up Vitalin as a stiffener.

The use of a "method feeder" as an "attractor" rather than a "feeder" is one that Andrew and myself used for our trenching last year. Having looked into the way both Den and another successful guy on the lake use the method feeder in a non feeder way got me really thinking.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I just use plain brown crumb as the stiffener/binder. I mix it with warm tap water before I set off and it really does stick to the method. I sometimes wrap a handfull of maggots into the middle amondst corn etc and it breaks down nicely as the maggots wriggle out. Even then thought i still often reel in with a lump still attached to the feeder.

Just another point re feeders, They often "dig in" nose first, and if the bait is mounted on top then it can be obscured/buried, so you need to pull back a bit.

I have done a LOT of testing/redesigning of feeders and think I have solved this problem. Be careful with the ones from Korum and Fox which have solid bases, these really do "dive in".....cast like a bullet....and dive down like one :)

My testing was done by casting along the bank so I could walk up and see how the feeder had landed. Different distances up to 70 yards or so, and in about 3/4 foot of water. Feeders dug in/landed nose first on almost all occasions. Took a few weeks and several new moulds to get the answer.......................think Eddie the Eagle ;);)

Thanks for that Budgie :)

I think this method is called the paste bomb - there are bombs designed to mould paste round them but cant remember who by.

Another way of doing it is using a blockend with the paste inside or sponge inside soaked in attractants.
