Hi Anglers' Net forum members,

I wanted to get all your input on an IPhone app that will be released on the Apple app store in the next week or two. To give you an idea of the app - here is a brief and the web address:

"Find Fishing makes it as easy as possible to find your fishery close to you or near a specified postcode. You will be able to check where your closest fishing venue is and then get turn by turn directions through our built in google maps API."

Website: http://www.findfishingapp.com/

Here are the questions:

1. Do you own a IPhone or a Smartphone?

2. Do you plane to get an IPhone or a Smartphone in the next 6 months?

3. Would you find this app useful?

4. Would you pay for this app?

5. If so what would be a reasonable price - 59p, 99p, £1.50, £1.99, £2.99.

6. Preferred fishing - coarse fishing / fly fishing.

7. other comments?

Thank you Elton for allowing this thread and a great thanks to all the members for your input.

Hi,

First of all, good idea!

HOWEVER, many of the questions you ask sound like the basis for some very early market research, which, if you're launching next week, could well be too late. It sounds like you're trying to establish if there's a market for the product after you've already developed it?

Anyway, for what it's worth here are my answers:

1. Yes

2. N/A

3. Maybe, but most people tend to know where they're going fishing before setting off.

4. No, I'm afraid I probably wouldn't pay for it (sorry). Actually, maybe I would cough up 59p! :)

5. N/A

6. Course fishing

7. See above!

Best of luck,

Stu

Edit: Just noticed on your website that one of the features is also the location of tackle shops. This would be very useful if fishing further afield in an unfamiliar area, so I would definitely now spend 59p! (last of the big spenders).

How about having a diary type feature where you could enter fishing notes, catch reports etc and attribute them to any particular venue you've fished?

For 59p, I would probably buy it to find out if I liked it without doing any research. If it were much more, I would want to know if it was any good first.

i think to be successful you will need to include alot more fisheries. the tackle shop idea is a good one.

unfortunately there is nothing featured in my area (north wales/north west england) so i wont be buying.

id pay 99p if i lived in the south.

best of luck!

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for input.

I shall answer all questions and comments to that have replied so far:

1. The research has been done and I have found there seems to be a need for an app like this even on a basic level like tackle shops, but I have to be honest it is important to ask you the members because you guys are the ones that need this to be useful. If I can catch important features now, then these may be incorporated in an early release.

2. @ Rich Jones - The map you see on the webpage is just a [very] small sample of only the south east and south west England. Find Fishing will cover the entire UK and islands in a likely concentration seen in the sample screenshot. When I mean small, I thought this would be easy information to get, small is 400 venues and we are now on over 1000 with probably another 2500 to go. Expect around 1000+ Coarse and Fly Fishing venues, 600+ Tackle shops and 350+ Sea Charters on release with more added every day. The app also allows you to contribute and add you own venues for others to enjoy using the inbuilt GPS locator.

3. @ Rob - Unfortunately this will be only available for the iPhone initially, then Android based phones soon to follow depending on the popularity. I am sorry that we cannot accommodate all platforms, but these apps tend to be pretty expensive on cross platforms and takes months and moths of development -If there is a need then we can always investigate other platforms.

4. @ Stuart Wright - (just caught your edit - thanks :)) - I agree and I thought of this, but myself being a mad fisherman and will fish whenever possible with some type of rod in my car at all times. This seemed like a solution to my own problems. Whether it's trying to find a tackle shop, find a fly fishing venue or even just a canal to drop a line, this app would make my life easier.

Find Fishing iPhone App in the first release will have a review system and the ability for you to comment on your catches for the day at a particular venue, to get you to your swim, locate venues you never knew existed, take you to top up maggots or lug worms and share your experiences with others.

Please, I ask you all to continue to comment and add your thoughts. It will only help to develop something that will be very useful to everyone.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment and I look forward to adding more features -

I've just ordered it. Hope it's good. That 59p would have got me a 1/3rd of a portion of chips! :D

Thanks Boss! I hope it'll be worth your while as it has taken a lot of man hours to get the venue database and especially the app coding to all hang together OK.

We are now working on version 1.6 code with iOS 4 crystal clear graphics and the addition of other search abilities. It will also go worldwide from the next version.
