If you take your Tardis Bream fishing

picked up a book today at a boot sale called BEEKAY'S SUCCESSFUL ANGLING series BREAM by Derek Quirk. It seems to have some very interesting info on SB's and fishing for them in gravel pits etc. Since your on the SB quest I think you would enjoy it.

Yes, some very good stuff on bream behaviour - however, a word of warning - there are several two-hook paternoster rigs illustrated (Figs 1, 8 and 10) that could result in a tethered fish should a fish take the bottom hook. I'm sure that the regulars on here would recognise them as such - but a word to the wise - anyone wanting to try them anywhere should run them past the fishery boss first.

Wingham regulars will know what I mean................

You've been reading books on bream fishing Dave? I knew you were a secret bream lover really. :)

ps. Do you think any of them old books will be any good for SB fishing? I didn't think there were to many 15lb+ SB's about when them books were being written.

Do anglers still use double hooked rigs in coarse fishing? Other then the standard snap tackle rigs for preds, I was pretty sure this practice had faded away. It's odd watching old fishing programs like John Wilson's early go fishing when he sets up fixed double hook rigs for Bream, Roach etc, I suppose it shows how far we have come in using safer rigs. But I guess they must still get used as fishery owners do seem to need to put it on the list of rules.

There were mid-double bream being caught when those books were first about. I remember the rows in the angling press about the two-hook rigs that some were caught on.

As you both say, few if any serious anglers would use them now, but those new to the game might be misled - which is why I mentioned it.

Well, they are quite good for lining the bottom of your runner-bean trenches in early spring <_<<_<

Given the popularity of them in the past, id be amazed if there not still used by some serious anglers.

I and most anglers i fished with over in Ireland used them at times. Their a good way of trying different hook baits at the same time to find out what the bream want. So long as you don't fish them with to light a line and your not fishing somewhere with them big fish in, you shouldn't have a problem and its no different to fishing a team of flies.

1. your not fishing somewhere with them big fish in,

2. its no different to fishing a team of flies.

1.This book was recommending these rigs for large bream.

2. You don't fish a team of flies with a 2 oz lead on the point (or perhaps you do!!:lol: )
