Bite Alarms

Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum as just wanted some friendly expert advise.

Have been looking at some bite alarms for some time but I feel I’m getting brain washed by heavy advertising etc. I'm looking for a reasonable priced alarm with reliability and friendly use.

Can anyone help?

Thanks all

Welcome to the forum :)

It may help if you define 'reasonable priced', as the range is broad. Also, what features do you want from them? I'm assuming you want a set? Do you want a remote receiver?

I love my optonics and love my single alarm. Depends on what u want to fish for, how often etc. When I buy new gear I have to justify it to the FPO that I will use it regular

This will be my first ever alarm so i guess rather than say reasonable priced I should say best value for money. With regards to features etc just the basics really nothing fancy that puts me in the silly price range £100 plus.

Sorry for the lack of information but I really unsure about what I should really be looking for.

Thanks again.

Unless you're after wireless alarms I can't recommend Good Fishing ones enough. Regulars will be fed up with me harping on about them, but I've used them for years without problem. They're well-designed, totally reliable and British-made. What's more you buy direct from the manufacturer, who I believe doesn't advertise, and so the price is exceptional.

A basic alarm with variable volume and variable tone plus a single output socket for a sounder box costs less than £10. I have the GFs model that adds dual sensitivity plus an extra output socket (although I use just one) at a cost of less than £15.

I use my GFs alarms with their wired sounder box. The new owner is busy designing a wireless version that I'll almost certainly switch to as a few of the swims I fish mean having my bivvy a little too far away from my rods for a wired set. He asked us for ideas in this topic: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/Wireles...s-t2349459.html

I have 2 of the cheap GF alarms - they get used an awful lot during the warmer months in situations where I really don't want an alarm to fail on me! They have always been reliable and I would certainly recommend them.
