I dont pike fish and this may be no help whatsoever but i hear lures with red wool are effective. Dont ask me why! :)

what lure has given you most bites when fishing for pike?

 

I have one big brass thing spinner but does other lures/spinners that are more sophisticated give an edge?

 

Pike lures work very much so on:

 

1. Weather Conditions

2. Water colour

3. Pikes Mood on the day

4. Type of water you are fishing

 

For example in coloured water you would have more of an edge using something that is either bright in colour, or has an attractive rattle or spinner to create the vibrations in the water.

 

In clearer water spinners/spoons ect: can be very good as the fish see all those shiny glints coming off the passing lure

 

I find in still waters lures with rattles are quite good as the rattle cuts through the silent water really well.

 

As for sophisticated lures... I find every lure has its day! I have had £16.99 lures fail on 30 casts.... Then a 99p spinner has netted 3 pike in a row.....

 

The secret is to have a good arsenal of lures/spinners/spoons ect: and change frequently to find what works best on the day

My most successful lure I have used is a Ondex spinner and I will include one in every selection of lures when planning to do lure fishing. Jacks love it and I have had some nice double figure Pike on it.

A splash of red on a lure can certainly make a difference. My favourite lure the Ondex has the red wool on the treble and I am also very fond of the classic white plugs/poppers with a red head for both fresh and salt water predators.

I honestly dont know how many lures I have.They range from tiny ones of a few cms to ones of over 2'in length! Prices from pence to over £30! But if I could only have one lure that I had to catch a pike on then it would be a simple 5" copper spoon.

 

As with most angling items its not what they are but how they are used.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

The lake that i was Piking a couple of winters ago actually Piking is a bit strong spending endless hours throwing lures or drowning sardines for little return is more acurate anyway there was an old boy who used to wander round and manage to winkle out a few with a big old copper spoon,When i spoke to him it was the only lure he ever used so obviously he knew how to get the best out of it .

I on the other hand lure wise had a plethora of different shapes and styles but really didnt have a clue what one to use or how to get the best out of it action wise ,bit more to it than just throwing out and winching them in again as fishing next to a competant lure angler will normally show quick time methinks .

The one lure i have allways had success with is the odnex with the red wool tassle but nothing big sadly steve.

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:
