I have another question for you guys,

I know that I am knew here, and an unknown entity, but my posts still being viewed by the forum moderator. This is something I have never experienced on all the forums that I am a member of (most regarding none fishing subjects).

Are everybody's posts scrutineered before they appear?

Hello Dave :)

Until you reach the magic number of posts (15), they will have to be approved by a moderator. We didn't really like instigating this rule, but a disruptive poster caused us a lot of hassle a few years ago. It has the added bonus of preventing spammers from posting directly onto the forum, as their posts are removed as soon as one of us sees it.

So in your face, all the Viagra sellers/spammers :bleh:

Ah - I see. OK. Thanks for the information

Can you tell me how to edit one of my existing posts - I just noticed that I spelt "new" as "knew" and it's driving me crackers.

And for what its worth, the sometimes delay between your posting and the post being approved is because none of the mods happened to be on the forum just then rather than any issues with what you are posting.

Thanks Newt, but I don't get either the "delete" or "edit" options when I view my posts.

Why don't I have those facilties?

My bad on that. Delete is a mod-only option so it would not show up on anyone else's options. I think Edit only shows up when you become a full member.

Hmmm - I wonder if we are talking about the same technique.

You certainly do need a sensitive rod tip and a slow (bends to the handle) or medium (bends to the center of the rod) action won't do but I'm speaking of a finesse technique with weights 1/8 to 1/4 oz unless you are fishing deep water (20+ feet) and need to go up to 1/2 oz to get the rig to the bottom. Drop shot hooks are light wire and super sharp so simply winding is usually better hooking than a more conventional hook set motion.

I know there are rod actions & tapers that are designed for drop shotting but to my mind, they are only marginally better than a more general purpose rod as long as the action is fast/extra fast and it behaves with light rigs which to me would be rods designed for lines 4-10 pound b/s and weights under 1/2 oz.

At any rate, I hope you can locate a rod that suits you for a price that is reasonable. If you get stuck I can probably source you something reasonable over here in either a spinning or bait casting rod. If we stay at a 2 piece rod under 7.5 feet length, the shipping is tolerable.

The Mach 3xt 035 i have one of these it makes for me a great float/light ledger reel,..recommended coupled with a jw youngs float rod superb rods..But do consider a Center pin Reel if the pennies can go to it.

Thanks for your input Sweeper, it's nice to hear that I made a good choice. I am waiting for my new XT 035 to arrive, could be tomorrow with a bit of luck.

The centre pin will have to wait as I have spent up for the moment ;)

Tight lines

Regards,

Dave
