A new rod for christmas

Hi there,

The Okuma baitrunner is an excellent reel for the money, it has good line lay so no casting problems, and has a spare spool too. I think there are various models available, as you are a tight budget you could go for one with a single ball bearing. The number of ball bearings is not really that important for a carp reel, as you are not winding in all the time. I think the current model on WMAC has one ball bearing.

You could also consider a Shimano Alivio 4000r, also a very nice reel, but doesn't have a baitrunner facility like the Okuma.

If you search for 'Shimano Hyperloop' on any search engine, you should find some places on the Net that sell it. You could also consider the Daiwa Sensor Z, also a very good budget rod, for around the same price. They sell the 2 1/4 test curve version on WMAC for £29.99. which is a great price! My mate has two of these and they are lovely rods.

So, a 2.25 TC Daiwa Sensor Z, and an Okuma Dynadrag freespool reel makes £49.98, I'd go for that if you want to buy both from WMAC.

I've bought from several online tackle shops and have never had a problem with any of them!

Hope this helps,

Andy.
