Evening Lyn, did a spot of asking today. Seems that you won't need to be qualified as such. But you will need a certificate of absolute cleanliness, a rather intrusive document. Apparently even bank details will be required. Whilst this is nescessary it does seem, from afar, to be overkill. The worry is that a lot of would be helpers at junior events will not wish to go through all that rigmarole. I am, as I said, meeting up with a Den Willis, an NFA coach next week. I know he is concerned and he is looking very seriously at the matter.

There's an article in Anglers Mail with more detail.

Apparently any organisation orgainising (say) a junior fish-in, will need to get details of those helping out, and these people will need to forward original identity documents, such as driver's licence, birth certificate, passport.

With people unwilling to trust such identity documents to the vagaries of the postal system, this may prove a further barrier, let alone the amount of work that the organiser has to do!

I expect that there will be a lot less ad-hoc junior teach-ins organised in the future, unless some organisation steps in to take up the slack.
