Fishing Tackle On Ebay

Are some of the people who bid for tackle on Ebay for real or do they just not pay up? e.g. a Youngs Purist II went for £256 the other day.....mad....There's a Bob James Aerial which I wouldn't be suprised if it also goes for more than the list price on at the moment. Similarly, looking at how much the Passion for Angling vids go for makes me wonder if I could retire from the funds gained from flogging my signed set......!!

Yup as a recent surfer on e-bay I too have been amazed at what things go for. Anything associated with Chris Yates going for silly money. As you say PFA vids going for much more than the 27quid it will cost you to get them from Hugh. A Medlar copy of Casting at the Sun going for in excess of 65quid (This is NOT out of print yet - though will still cost you 50 notes from Medlar). I've even thought it might be worth it to buy up some copies of Falling in Again and Secret Carp on Amazon and flogging them straight away on e-bay. :D

Still there are some buys to be had - I was pleased I picked up a 1950 copy of The Fisherman's Bedside Book by BB for a tenner recently. I'm looking forward to its arrival and to getting stuck into its 567 pages of wonderful writing.....

yes similar veiws about ebay as chris,s

some bidders seem totally unaware of the value of what they are bidding on

i have seen some omega watches and some bidders are offering as much as a new one almost, the mind boggles at their thinking logic

ok with tackle relate items we all know with old gear its what value the individual buyer thinks its worth to him as a possesion but honestly

the prices some rods or reels fetch is crazy

builtcane rods, who really wants to use a rod 30 odd years old costing almost as much as a new article probably just as good but with 30 odd years more life in it (referring to a new cane rod)nostalgias ok but you gotta keep it in perspective surely, i have just seen a chapmans 500 rod being offered for over £150, these rods were not the top end of the market when produced more like a middle of road job, where,s the logic?

ok if its a hard to replace item ok prices can soar but mk4 avons are still readily available and at todays cost of a new one its still in its perspective with an average mans earnings as it was 30 years ago, what guy in his right mind would go out and pay say £12000 for a 15year old standard escort car?

its a similar situation, old gear wears out the same as a car, look after it and it wears well but it still wears out if its used regulary

gimme a newun everytime for the same money.

It's not just e bay where this happens.

Our own auction site has similar things and even now there is someone selling a rod and he wants a minimum of £49-99 for it yet I have just seen a shop advertising it for £35-00.

The mind boggles.
