day ticket prices

When looking through the angling press i have noticed that the highest prices for a day ticket on commericals is in the south east of England. go up north or out west or into the midlands and east anglia and the prices go down rapidly. This is even more important when during the close season the rivers and a lot of council run park lakes are closed, along with many club waters. Rip off Britain is alive and well in this part of the realm.

I would think that a big percentage of southern commercial venues are for carp and they thrive better down south, apparently. So maybe it's down to weather and latitude as well as the rip-off factor.

Personally I've always felt that day-tickets are over-priced compared with a season ticket or club membership.

Its to the price its the fact that compaired to other areas the South east is so expensive and I don't belive the quality is much better. I have fished lakes in other areas and feel that you get value for money. When we ahve to pay 8 to 10 pounds here when it is often 3to 5 elsewhere, well perhaps i feel a little put out.

i used to live up north.(manchester) till i moved down south in wiltshire.and i find the prices down here are very exspensive, comparde to up north..but the fish down here are a lot better, and bigger,i can pay up to £5 per day..which is not that bad really..it's when they ask for £10.plus.is when i walk away..sorry guys i am not a cheap skate..just a semi retired parson which can't afford a lot..:-) :)

We have some good cheap park lakes round here that are convenient for those on a budget or who don't have there own transport but the local council insist they are closed for the whole three month close season. This is despite the pressure from the local angling club and others. It is the lack of choice that I don't like. Expensive or leave it.

nursejudy:

What would be classed AS TOO expensive for a days fishing

nursejudy

With ref to your signeture Nurse Judy, Its time for bed Florence, they just don't make TV like they used to. Magic roundabout, Dixon of Dock Green, Z Cars, Quatermass, Jack-in-the Box, they were the days. And before that all we had was Archie Andrews, The Horrace Batchellor Adverts, Dick Barton and Dan Dare. How time flies!

Whats too expensive Nurse Judy, well, £5.00 for a day tops, including a boat. Free river fishing is better though.

Blimey Peter, how little do you think a days fishing is worth? £5 a day for maybe 18 hours in the summer is pretty reasonable isn't it?

OK it may seem a bit steep for kids and there is a strong argument that they should only pay a very small amount if only to encourage them to get started, but I wonder how much they spend on their electronic toys.

Maybe there is a case for a "summer ticket" for kids (and OAP's :D ) so that they can fish maybe 4 days a week for the price of one(there is a place on the IOW where you buy your ticket and can return every day for 7 days without any extra charge)

The question was probably aimed at adults and if you are teetotal and nonsmoking, don't gamble or spend money on the internet then £5 can seem a lot,but as no one on here qualifies( :D ) then a day by a lake/river for a Fiver is pretty good value.
