York Lakeside Lodges

Forgot to mention the pike, the local tackle shop and a local contact both said it holds massive Pike and that several anglers stay for short breaks through the winter months for them. I can't remember if the web site showed pictures of any pike but I remember some bream and carp being shown. have a look on www.yorklakesidelodges.co.uk and check it out. Out of interest, I think one of the lake rules includes no livebaiting.

the clear spots were because of weed but i never tried a weed rake as i found the spots with gravel.the locals seemed to fish for the carp mainly so i asumed there was a decent head of carp ,certainly rumours of a 30lb but it was a time of fish going missing shall we say!.

as to the pike i was always there in summer but again it looked the sort of water i would expect good pike.hope this helps cheers big al

Hi,

We've been there several times, Summer hols time and week in October.

Being on hols with the family means snatched moments - but have managed tench to 7lbs. And have lost count of the perch. Summer

Also pike to 15lbs, drifted dead bait, and 12lbs on lure. October.

Have seen caught 30lbs carp and 10lbs bream - but these by committed (and they should have been )anglers. Out all day with the family and then bivvied up overnight!

I wouldn't class it as an easy water by a long chalk. I think they allow too much in the way of boillies fired into the centre of the lake thereby drawing the fish away from the margins.

That said there are areas where a carefully places sub-surface floating bait (Flippin' ducks  ) can work its magic

You don't even need the car to get into York. Stroll up to the supermarket and a very regular shuttle bus service drops you in the centre.

All in all a great place for a family hol, especially if swmbo can drive! And the last time we were there, the car floodlit footie match for the kids!!

I've never seen anyone sailing or boarding on the lake though Neil occasionally rows off out to plant some reeds here and there.

It is quiet, well kept and we're going back this summer :D But you do need to book early - it fills up quickly.

Len

Hi Eastern,

Done a bit of homework for you and found that the lake holds tench pike and a few carp.

The lodges are top class but if you are into match type fishing the lake is a place to wtach the ducks and the local carp anglers only!

It`s a good base for a few very good local still waters, Raker lakes is 5 miles away (I fish a winter league there)it`s full of carp, roach, bream etc.

Thank you all for your help and advice. I have booked a week (last in August) on the strength of what you have all said (and booked my fishing clubs weed rake!!). It's surprising how few people are prepared to put in some time with a weed rake to open up a seemingly unfishable swim and it often results in fish straight away, especially Tench, so I'm going to give it a try. I'll make sure I report back after my holiday. Many thanks,
