Just received a 4sss rod from veals - 4pc 9ft 3lb test curve sea spinning rod.

I belive they are also marketed by Eddie Turner pike specialist tacke (ET Tackle) as the 4x4 sneaker rod.

First impressions - When in cloth bag a tad over two and a quarter feet long - perfect size for taking on holiday as takes up very little room and will fit in a medium suitcase if required.

It could do with a small travel case but thats asking a bit for such a low price.

It comes in four equal lengths built on a nice looking blank with decent guides, cork handles and a decent seat.

Once put together you start to get a sense of the potential this rod has.

I have paired mine up with a shimano baitrunner 4500 (that looks the same as the one in the picture) with 12lb mono, tied the mono to a fence post and pulled the rod into a nice powerfull hoop - there are no flatspots and I pulled so hard the clutch started giving line!!!

I bought one for fishing (feathering, bottom baits and some lure work) off the rocks on holiday this summer and to slip in amoung all our family kit on day trips and camping trips where space is at a premium but as the guy on the ET site says - these rods have alot of potential uses due to their length and test curve.

If you are after a tough holiday rod I highly recommend you take a close look at these.

Thought I better use the rod having sung its praises before wetting a line - Had a short evening stalking session for some carp off the top last night (ok not sea fish but the rod needed a quick test before I hopefully do some battle with a few sea species in the next few weeks).

Had a 6lb mirror from under an overhanging tree, the shortness of the rod helped get the bait right on the fishes nose and the power of the rod soon had it away from the roots into open water.

Half an hour later had an 11lber from the edge of a thick reedbed 18ft along a margin - again the power of the rod prevented the fish diving into the snags.

Its proven itself as a great close range stalking rod - next test will be slinging out a few Dexter wedges, Toby lures and some feathers using 1 to 3 oz leads.

Yep moral of the tale don`t stick your rods in the vertical rod holders in the boat and then motor the boat under a low overhanging branch and plop glug glug :wallbash: ,A point worth remembering to anyone who is thinking of getting one is that they dont float

We should try to get that trip to Farmoor in - no trees there!

Yes we should Steve and the no trees thingy is a bonus ,Spent a very enjoyable evening moored just upstream of Pinkhill lock a couple of weeks ago opposite farmoor watching Barn owls hunt along the banks of the reservoir at dusk .

If that spot isn`t to far away for you the Pinkhill weir is on the EA lock and weir permit and well worth a look .

Back to the OP those rods are very versatile and bend all the way to the butt ,Doubt the 3lb test thingy though but a very good travel rod for the money Steve.
