What do I call Carp puddles?

They do serve a purpose for anglers. They keep the carp puddle people away from us.

Graham.

Some may criticise you for being elitist regarding keeping people away from the places you want to fish. Not I.

I have to agree that since the 'puddles' arrived, public waters around my way are a lot tidier.Fewer Luncheon meat or sweetcorn tins, less discarded line and fewer morons making a racket and behaving in a way that would break most of the rules in a club book.Of course, there is also more space on the bank.

As for the puddles themselves, they do fulfill a purpose and some people like them. Another poster mentioned Hordle Lakes. I went for a look and left without taking any tackle from the car, what a dump, sure plenty of fish to catch but everything else 'seemed wrong'.

Cheers, Adrian

hi all

I think there is a difference between a comercial fishery and a carp puddle. I personally have nothing against lakes artificially stocked with fish as long as they are not overstocked, the fish have plenty of natural food, plenty of places to breed sucsesfully and there is a natural balance i.e plenty of weed and variety of species. A carp puddle is just a hole dug in the ground stuffed solid with fish and has about 4 matches a week.

Thanks Adrian, it's not often anyone says anything nearly nice to me on here, then again I am a cantankerous b.

Carp puddle. I have fished them hust to see. ie a place you put a large lump of something on a hook 2 inches from the nearside bank and wait a few minutes for it to either catch into the bored patrolling fish or one to eat it.

Commercial carp are a pile of pap,gi me slabs on the tip any day

Each to their own. I have taken many groups of kids from schools and youth clubs to places like Makin's and they have always had a great day's fishing in a "safe" environment. I feel they really do have a place among angling venues.

Carp Puddles are a derogatory term, no doubt about it. But I rather think that the industry that provides McDonalds style, pre-digested instant success have brought it on themselves.

But has been said on AnglersNet a thousand times before, everyone to their own.

But I'm afraid the term is here to stay. Just as fluff chuckers, tidler snatchers, plug chuckers, crap yobs, micky mouse anglers, maggot drowners, spratt soakers, dray flay types, bivvy boys, boilie brigade, floppy hat brigade, ultra cults, pussy chasers, bob noddies, blue tackle box brigade, barbel police, tackle tarts, pike circus, slab bashers etc. are all used in a derogatory manner. Truth is, us anglers are all snobs, albeit generally in good humour! Our particular branch of the sport is always superior to the lesser sectors of our great sport! Pikers who specialise in lure angling being top of the pyramid :D:D:D !

And those who pred fish with soft plastics on proper bait casting rod/reels are at the top of the top. :D:P:P

Commercials are good for the sport IMO. Youngsters can fish relatively safe from nutters and other undesirables who may present themselves at out of the way locations.

What better way for youngsters to start out in angling than going somewhere where they can catch fish, thereby maintaining interest.

Each to their own as far as I'm concerned. I certainly enjoy fishing at them.
