Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Way back in the distant past I sold Intrepid goodies that I purchased via a company called Gladding International. Gladding was, if I remember correctly, then taken over by Shakespeare. One of the first new products to hit the shelves were Intepid 'Flasha' lures and Intrepid rods. That was about 1970, I think.

hi peter despite research i cannot find the shakespear link :( heres an e`mail from leeda regarding their past

"Dear Dave,

In 1997 the MBO sold Leeda to HYoung Holdings in Newbury. At the time HYoung

was a listed company on the London Stock Exchange but the group was acquired

and taken private in 2002.

It was decided in 1992 that the company had enough reel brands in its

portfolio (this was just after the integration of four companies so there

were plenty of product range consolidations going on) so the Intrepid name

was dropped for reels. We still some accessory items under the Intrepid

name.

HYoung still owns the Intrepid name and the rights to use it in the UK. To

the best of my knowledge Shakespeare use it primarily in the US and do not

use it in the UK (but if they do then please let me know).

Sorry I haven't got any old catalogues or adverts to help you with.

Please let me know if I can forward any further information,

Best regards"

maybe the link is hwyoung , before that in 1991 leeda was a BFR company ,the intrepid name was used previously by the east anglian rod co who sold out to porter chadburn (who also bought amounst others leeda) the name intrepid was used instead of hi-line as it was thought better hence the rebadging when leeda took over as you see after gladding there were mbo after mbo but BFR kept the intrepid name (infact intrepids are still made allbeit now BFR/orvis flyreels)
