For a normal whip which is designed for small fish I would suggest a maximum of a six through the top two.

The new generation of carp whips / margin poles take up to a twenty.

Different floats for different folks!

I wouldnt put a 14 elastic in just because it is rated as a 14. This represents the maximum you will get away with not the optimum, The elastic should relate to the style of fishing you will be doing not the poles maximum.

As a general guide fish under 2lbs use a 6, 2-4 an 8 and only go heavier if you are after real lumps.

Let us know what you want to catch and where and we can be more specific.
