Do Pike Feed at Night??

I'm going fishing this w/end on grassmere in the lakes fri-sun. I'd like some help, Do pike feed at night?? Is it worth leaving the Rods out or stay wrapped up inthe bivvy??? :confused: :confused:

Pike do feed at night, but you need to strike as soon as they pick up the bait.

 

If you go back into the bivvy, wind the lines in.

 

Especially in warmer weather, during the day, pike will hide in the weedbeds, where the weed produces useful oxygen.

 

At night, the weeds produce CO2 and the pike move out into clear water.

Yes, they do. But, for pikes sakes, don't fish for them 'crap yob' style. Sleeping, draining a bevvy or three, watching T.V., relying on self hooking rigs and bite alarms is not what pike fishing is about. Try lure fishing at night, can be devastating, and very exciting.

 

Please note, bevvy, not bivvy!!

So Peter, what are you doing in your 'bivvy' that you have to drain it so often.

Have to agree about fishing past sunset particularly places similar to where you and I regularly fish ie where there is above average boat traffic during the hours of daylight, thats not to suggest BTW, that you wont catch during daylight hours too. However I have little faith in the 'dawn and dusk' theory. Whilst I've caught my fair share of tench and the like at first light, I've rarely seen good pike fishing at dusk unless it coincides with a particularly fruitful state of tide. I'm firmly of a view that pike like a little warmth to wake up and feed. On my patch when the sun hits the water is a very noticeable feeding trigger. Perch will of course oblige long before the pike will

Trouble is, Gerry, that you and Trev start well after dawn and pack up well before dusk .

Thats known as the 'crack of noon' syndrome. On the days when he doesnt have to be dragged screaming and kicking out of his pit, I'm usually on the water 20-30 mins before daylight. It's not a good time to catch pike but I'm a city boy who just loves to watch the river wake up

Zander fishing is VERY productive at night. The biggies are mostly had in darkness.
