A Governing Body Structure?

All forms of recreational angling should be licensed, with a fee charged.

Obviously, concessionary licences would be available for juniors, pensioners etc.

A significant percentage of the licence fee, would go to a central, consolidated, National Angling Association.

This Association would have full time, paid, administration staff.

The "Chief Executive"(also, full time and paid) would be appointed (by Government), from the current Fishing Organisations heirarchy.

Sub Committees would be formed to cover equally, Sea, Coarse, Game, and other specific interests.

Regionalised, if thought necessary.

The Chairpersons (and Vice Chairpersons ?), of these Committees would form the "Board" of the Association, together with the Chief Executive.

Nothing would stop the continued existence of the "Specialist Groups", but they would have no "rights" to membership of the Sub Commitees.

Membership of the Sub Committees, would be drawn from the people currently representing the specific angling interests.

At some point in the future, a method of election to the Sub Committees, would need to be evolved.

One option would be by regions, with every licence holder being entitled to vote for the candidates, for every Sub Committee vacancy, (whatever the specific interest of that Sub Committee).

A single national Organisation will not succeed, unless funded adequately.

No voluntary method of funding will ever be successful.

Just my 0.02p worth.

Peter, Brian, Dennis, who's up for a bit of fishing?  Perhaps when it’s stopped raining and has grown less cold.  One never can tell just what might come from just a "bit of fishing".

After moving back to this island at the end of July, my fishing tackle should catch up with me next week-end. Then I'm off to sort out some Coniston (and other lakes) pike. Rain, winds and cold weather will not deter me. Who knows, I might actually catch one! :)

However, I never mix politics (talk) with fishing (doing it). At my age, I can only concentrate on one thing at a time.

having viewed this thread for a while i would like to throw in somthing differant.i think we are all thinking the wrong way ie what we really need is not a committee or commitee's but one person .thats right just one a sort of chief executive for anglers someone who could discuss with goverment europe etc and of course be paid the going rate .

after you get that person in place with secreatarial help, committees could feed into him but he needs the authority to make decisions only then would we get anywhere .

how to fund it that's been discussed .

who is the right person and how do we choose .well we invite people to apply get say the NAA to draw up a short list and all licence payers vote on a web site or by post easy really.

so for me it's one man in charge .cheers big al

Dear Brian,

"However, I never mix politics (talk) with fishing (doing it). At my age, I can only concentrate on one thing at a time."

Spot on once again. At my age, I should have known better. But I didn't, and paid the price. Never again.

Rather uninterestingly, the Trent Barbeler will come again no more after Sunday December the 7th. I will also on the same date become uncontactable via email or telephone. Back into the swirling mist and the sounds of rolling fish

for me.

Best of Luck with the fishing.

Regards,

Lee.

Peter,

WE are all (I hope) sane adult people so why don't we 'vote with our feet' and form this utopian oganisation and let the anglers see what can be done, and if they stop belonging to their various organisations and joined this one, the big "fat cat" organisations would go to the wall,

thereby allowing this organisation to improve the lot of ALL anglers.

Not such a bad idea! Anyone else?
