LURE versus Bait

So it would be safe to say

There is an advantage to the uses of both methods

ie , None really being better than the other

I'd say it merely comes down to average sizes and numbers. I'm certain lures, flies and livies will produce higher numbers of fish but for the big pike (say 14lbs and over) I can't see past a dead brownie or a half lamprey.

I've had 150lbs+ of pike in a session and that was in 18" to 2 feet of water, a mere 20 feet from the bank, all on deads, with fish up to 20lbs and more on some occasions, regardless of the weather.

Unless it's very cold indeed, I'll always try spots where most people wouldn't think to try, imagining it's too shallow. Believe me, until you've waded about in a big bay that's about the depths suggested, you'd be amazed how many large pike lie about virtually unseen and then only when they move.

I remember spinning tobies

on alemoor resevoir

near Hawick in the scottish borders

Many people were all fishing the same area

so i walked 500 yards along the bank

to a part nobody fishes Ever

it is shallow at the side for about 2 foot

then suddenly drops of to God knows the depth

I just put my lures in there & i had 8 pike in about half an hour

No big ones

The best was about 5lb

It was great sport

Everyone else i spoke to had caught nothing all day at the Best Spot

( Best i think not )

But i never told anyone of my catches

If i did that would of became everyone elses

Best spot

Fresh fish is best for Pike to catch the big ones - lures are good to catch lots of 5 kilo fish.
