yes i'm not old enough to get full blown alzheimers yet ,i remember being given them along with the girl next door by her neighbour ,you just chewed on them for a couple of hours to remove what flavour was there and chucked them ,we bought some for the grandkids in the summer who gave us a funny look and no doubt after we went binned them :D

err i wasnt given the girl next door that came later but i meant we were both given the sticks

We have a sweetie shop called Sweet Home Alabama, again supposedly original boiled sweets, i once tackled the owner about it, and he said they were made to the original recipe, but with alternative ingredients?? WTF is that about then ? so they are not original.

The best boiled bullets i have tasted in yonks are the sweets made at Beamish, very nice

Blimey, it's a good job you're not superstitious, Tony - the Black Bullet was an old seafarer's way of choosing who was going to get chucked overboard! As in this snippet from the traditional ballad "The Undutiful Daughter":

"They cast the black bullets, as they sailed on the water

The black bullet fell to the undutiful daughter.

Now, who in the ship must go over the side O

O none save the maiden, the fair captain's bride O."
