Tail-rubbers

I might post this to IYCF but, just in case it doesn't get printed, I wonder if anyone could explain to me what a tail-rubber does and when I should be using one?

Most rig pictures seem to feature them, but I've always used a simple running rig, with an Arlesey bomb above a rubber bead above a swivel to which the hooklength is attached.

By 'tail rubber' do you mean an elastic band up the line from the lead / bead (to act as a 'bolt' setter) or rubber sleeve on the line itself (to prevent 'spooking')? or maybe even a rubber on the bottom end of a float.

If not I hav'nt a clue what you'r on about!

No, I don't think so... IYCF magazine features loads of leger rigs with Korda tail rubbers. It even recommends putting them onto a method feeder prior to use. I'm not sure I've really got much idea what they are for.

i use them with safety clips and heavy rig tubeing as i dont use leadcore or the like.

 

They sit between the clip and the tubing, holding the lead into the clip, and the tubing against the clip, meaning that if the led does become caught then it can pull away from the clip releasing the lead. and keeps tangles down as if you didnt use one there would be a hinge between the lead clip and the rig tubing, not to mention you'd loose a lot of leads.

Oh them things!, I've a few which go into the bottom of big method feeders.

When I've lost one I just use shrink tube or silicone tube with a bead above instead.
