Cork arbor ....

I'm thinking of buying an old 'Pin' of some sort. Apparently the line can take a on a 'set' if the arbor is made of metal pins. My rods have tiny rings so can see a problem trying to trot smoothly. a Lot of backing covered with tape would do the job I guess but I wonder if sheet cork is the ideal solution?

The small amount of line needed on a pin this wont be a problem. Only time you need an arbour is if the spool is very deep.

I have to concur with Budgie; never had a problem with it in practice. I use my pins more these days for fishing in the margins of lakes with considerably stronger (and stiffer) lines than I used to trot with and have still not been affected.

in days of yore when mono came in 25 yard lengths pin users on occasion used knitting wool to bulk up the spools or string ,not perfect you could get the line trapped in between the yarn but it worked so long as you dried everything at the end of the day.

people even did it with fixed spools if the reels didn't come with arbours and most didn't
