Bloop Bloop ?

So ....

I'm sitting at the side of my pond having my usual doze when my attention is attracted by "Bloop Bloop"

 

Carefully turning towards the water, I notice that my biggest Koi has got his nose out of the water and is swaying slighly whilst making the "Bloop Bloop" with his mouth.

 

Within five minutes he is joined by at least six other fish, which line up alongside him and copy what he is doing.

 

All the fish are right at the edge of the pond, in a small strip of sunlight.

 

I have never seen anything like this before !

 

I dont think they were gasping for air .. there is plenty of white water in the pond. And there was no sign of any tasty treat in the waters edge.

 

So what have we got here ?

 

Syncronised Sunbathing ?

 

Pisceal Line Dancing ?

 

A new Boy Band ?

they are strange critters , we were fishing at our local and noticed one of the 2ft koi was lying on its side with some of its body out of the water :confused: motionless ontop of thick weed , after 3 hours in full sun i came to the conclusion that it had died (as so many other fish in the pond have done) a duck swan near and it swam off and joined its 2 mates in the corner lilly pads the next day it was sunbathing again why they dont get sunburnt is amazing :confused:

I've noticed my fish, particularly the young tench early in the morning, doing as you described. After watching them and the other fish a few times I came to the conclusion that they were attempting to suck in the surface film. Not entirely sure why as there wouldn't be much food content I wouldn't have thought, but it did seem quite deliberate.
