Might be a silly question but are you allowed to fish from a boat on the trent??????????

If the river is tidal then yes, no question of it. If its not tidal then maybe not.

just checked out that link peter, thanks a lot, seems though that a couple of the rivers i want to fish are not mentioned at all, namely the derbyshire derwent and the dove, anyone know what the score is with rivers not mentioned?? does it mean i dont need a license?

If a river is non tidal & privately owned, and maybe the Derwent is, then you might not need a boat licence, but you will need consent from the owner.
