I have posted on this and other forums that I use braid for most of my fishing now! I started with Spiderwire and have moved on to Power-Pro. I have used the blood and grinner exclusively and do not have a problem with either. The lowest bs that I use is 50lb. on either of the lines that I buy. I still have some of the Spiderwire lines on a couple of the Cat rigs, but will change them after this years fishing. The 100lb. variety has proven itself to be reliable although very thick. I do not try to cast it for this reason. My vote now is for the Power-Pro!!! You will be able to use it in more situations than the others in my opinion.

For a pike/zander bait or lure set-up, the braid goes through to a wire trace. For other species, its usually a mono or specialist braided hooklength.

Guys,

Sorry if this is a silly question, if it is spare no punches, but is the braid being discussed by yourselves for main line the same as is used commercially for hook-lengths? The reason I ask is that I read Budgie's link posting and noticed that he states that braid should never come into contact with the fish, yet when I buy pre-tied carp rigs (hairs etc) they always seem to come with braided hook-lengths: ergo; braided hook-lengths damage fish. Have I missed something here?

Comus, the braids used for mainlines are a lot thinner per breaking strain than most hook length braids.I would never use a braided main line material for hook lengths as they can cut the fishs mouths.

I first got into braided mainlines by looking at them (whilst in the US,15 or so years ago) for use as hook lengths.I learned the hard way.Hard for a few fish that is.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
