"Gangs of Asian youths in the north of England are out of control, claims a Labour MP.

Ann Cryer, who represents Keighley in West Yorkshire, says youths, mostly men, are resorting to turf wars and totally disregarding the law".

it always amuses me the age of man ,if you try to get a childs fare on a train then you become fully grown at about 12 and if you kill someone you become fully grown at 18 only then can you go to a real prison i think a reversal of the ages seems more applicable :)

Chesters

Now this i do know about

In the Uk you are classed as a YP (young/youth prisoner) untill the age of 21, then you become an adult prisoner.

I've gotta agree though that the ages thing in the uk is really messed up.

You can't be taken to court untill 13, you can be charged before 13 but not taken to court.

You can have sex & buy tobbacco at 16.

You can buy alcohol at 18.

So basically you can go out n get a girl knocked up, start a habit with Britians biggest drug but you can't get drunk??

Logic please??

Dan:

are they youths or men

This is something I have always wondered about.

I came to this conclusion. As far as reporting is concerned you are a youth until you are 21 if you are a victim but you are a man from the age of 17 if you are arrested or accused.

What I found interesting about this story was the knee-jerk reaction from the professional race lobby in condemning the MP. None of them addressed the issue that was raised they merely resorted to insulting the MP. Yet the chairman of the UK Muslim Parliament actually agreed with her and gave reasons why she was right (community leaders being old and living as though still in the sub-continent).

It seems these days that even an MP cannot attempt to raise issues that concern race without being accused of being a racist. But then the race card is very easy to play and extremely difficult to refute hence its regular and repeated use
