Hey guys

Im just back from shatterford lakes and there was this guy using polly balls fishing worms. He said its so he can fish at all depths. Strange rig i thought but worked a treat for him. Does anyone know this method? Love to know so i can google it and maybe use it myself. Oh yes he also said its a good catfish method too. Something about reeling line to adjust the fishing depth.

Thanks for any info

There are quite a few ways to present worms up in the water without a normal float rig.

I tend to use 2 such ways.

The first is to use some form of sunken float paternoster, and this has the advantage of being able to very quickly and easily vary the depth without recasting. For more information see this perch article of mine here on Angler's Net: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/Coarse-Fishing...teve_burke.html. Also see this topic discussing the rig in depth at http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/Sunken-...ter-t80818.html.

The second is a pop-up presentation. This can be done by air-injecting the worm (be careful you don't inject yourself though!) or adding something buoyant like foam to the hook. By popping it up a long way you've effectively fishing a Zyg rig. I'm very fond of Zyg rigs for carp, and more than half my carp on my own water at Wingham have come on Zygs.

I've also found carp a complete nuisance when fishing worms or deadbaits off the bottom when targeting perch in winter. On the other hand I get many less winter carp on these baits when fishing them on the bottom.
