Bird ID help

Newt

Recommended Posts

I took these photos on Merritt Island on the East Coast of central Florida in a salt marsh. I think this is two shots of the same species in different positions. I think.

I have never seen one before and can't seem to find the info to ID the beastie.

American Bittern I think Newt, Botaurus lentiginosu.

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Its hard to believe that the round ball of a bird could be hiding all that neck behind what look to be fairly small wings.
