'Puter question from one who hasn't a clue...

Is it possible for someone to post messages in my name - and, if undelivered, would it then be possible for those messages to come back to my computer?

This very thing appears to be happening right now. Obviously, I blamed the kids - it's a parental default mechanism - but I've just had quite a nasty message returned, and there's no way even MY kids would concoct something like this, and they weren't in the house at the stated message time, anyway.

I have an idea about someone who has a gripe with me, and has used similar 'tactics' on others, but I'd like to be sure before I lower the boom.

One would SO hate to offend, don'tcha know.

So - is it possible for someone else to send stuff using my e-mail address?

Hope you can help - it could save me a lot of grief.

It is extremely simple to make an email look like it's come from someone else on the surface, but most people who do this tend to make mistakes and the header of the email will often give them away. Does your software have a facility to enable you to view the headers?

Terry - it is also fairly simple to hink up the "sent time" on a message. Any date/time you want to use.

Thanks, guys - given my lack of techno-smarts and availability of mates who specialise in the more 'direct' approach, I think I'll go the basic route.

Sod it - I can always say sorry if I'm wrong, ay?

Thanks for the help, lads.

It is the easiest thing in the world to do.

In windows you can go to START/RUN and then type in a few things and send an email with any name from any address. There will be no header givaway and to all intents and purposes this is from that person. If they reply it will go directly to you.

I could put it up here how its done but that would not be wise.
