Luckily for you all, sunfish prefer water temps above 21ºC for spawning and your cooler water makes for inefficient conditions for them. Otherwise they would become a major pest since they reproduce in large quantities and about their only natural enemy once they had a few months growth would be pike or really large perch.

 

Lots of fun though since they eat nearly anything, are mostly too stupid/greedy to become wary, and are great fighters for their weight.

Here in the Southeast, we do have one or two waters where they breed most years (probably not this year though!)

They have escaped into at least one river system

 

They are excellent bait for large perch, and are excellent eating from a clean water, if the management are enlightened enough to allow you to take them.
