Corn beef?

Has anyone ever tried corn beef as groundbait? i'm thinking of using it this weekend. As it is easyily shaped + you can add anything to it and it will stick in it. :confused:

beware some commercial waters have minimum sizes for meat ! I know it sound crazy . . several mow ban grated or liquidised meat

I'd advise against it, Nathan, unless you just mean as extra flavour in a bread or groundbait mix. It isn't particularly good for non-predatory fish to give them pure protein, without any carbohydrate. If the fish don't eat it, it's going to rot, slowly, on the bottom, and upset the natural ecology of the water. I know the dangers of this, from keeping an aquarium: if the food isn't all gone in a day, it can cause real problems.

I'm not so sure about that statement. Insect lavae, shrimps, crayfish and all manner of mollouscs are pretty much pure protien without any carbohydrate and nobody would suggest that these are bad for the diet of "non-predatory" fish.

I do agree with Pangolin's general gist though, but for a slightly different reason. Luncheon meat has a very high fat content which wprobably wont do fish any good if so much is chucked in that it rots on the bottom.
