This is one of those that is often used by celebrity "psychics" to demonstrate their "powers". Another common one revolves around the question:

"Think of a colour, any colour..."

Laboratory tests have shown that when asked the question: "What's your favourite colour?" the majority of people will answer "red." This percentage is usually in the 62%-72% range.

This is often used by psychics as a demonstration of their "powers". You know the thing. They'll say that they are "beaming out their thoughts" and you have to guess which colour they are thinking of. Surprise surprise when they reveal that the colour is red. Of course, most people have "thought" of red. I once saw Uri Geller perform this "trick" on a live ITV show with David Frost as the presenter. At the start of the hour-long show, Uri sent out his "thoughts" and asked people to phone in to a phone line and register their vote for which colour they thought he was thinking of. Near the end of the show, they revealed the colour, and the voting. No surprise when he revealed that the colour was "red" and that most people had got it right. The percentage? 67% of voters had voted for red. This was held up by Uri Geller as "proof" that most people have "psychic abilities".
