strange fault

i have with my p.c a strange fault , very occasionally the mouse curser goes strange (changes or turns into a line etc) instantly the pc locks ,the mouse curser wount move ,cont alt del wont function and the pc hangs for a few seconds and the monitor switches off ,the hard drive light stays on and nothing but a hard reboot brings it back to life

on reeboot it does a disk check and reports a "prefetch" fault :confused:

its not going to sleep ,its not the mouse (ive tried 2 ) is their a program or function within windows that logs the pc and reports what stops it,but doesnt suffer being stopped mid operation

as i say its occasional maybe once every 3 days whatever program is running ,if it did it the same way everytime at least i`d have a clue

its not heat related nor memory as i have checked it using scisoft etc :confused:

maybe its just strange it does it in 2d rather than 3d when it works hard ,directx diag reports everything ok and its the latest drivers ,the card has an exaust fan blowing out the p.c so not heat related either :confused:

curiouser and curiouser, still think vis card may be acting up, not sure why, just a feeling in me water

its strange its always a prefetch report on disk checking ,maybe theres a corrupted prefetch file but emptying the prefetch on turn off and it rebuilding it has no effect

unless the prefetch fault is BECAUSE it hangs :confused:

Hi all

 

chesters mine sometimes hangs with a green line across the top of the moniter with little lines through it. :confused:

 

thankfully it doenst happen allot i think it may be either vid prob or explorer as ive noticed it happen afew times while running multiple sites (3-4) but sod it the last board i had was a nightmare :mad: compared to this little prob
