DVD Recorder

Recommended Posts

For a while now I have wanted to copy my VHS videos and home video 8mm HI 8 tapes onto CD or DVD.

Initially I was going to buy a new PC and use a Canopus ADVC-100 video capture device, which is highly rated, to do the conversions.

However this is an expensive route for what will be mostly a one-off exercise. It occurred to me that I should be able to make good copies of my VHS and 8mm tapes using a recordable DVD player.

Does anyone know if this is a good way to do it?

it depends on if the tapes are macrovision protected

other than that over to a person with a dvd recorder :)

I know it can be done, but don't know about the quality. Of course it can't be any worse than VHS anyway right? At least by turning them into DVDs you'll be saving space.

One of my friends and I researched value for money on these. This one has a time delay function so you can start watching the program before it has finished recording it. You'll pay more for a hard drive but the majority of options they have do not really increase.
